How The CIC Works

Working with the Community
Relevant information is gathered and availed to the community in this centre, whereby interested individuals can easily access it. We also put into perspective the needs of the people in this area, in that, we provide to them the information that they specifically need and is relevant towards the growth of the community. Information will be gathered from the community via documentaries, videos, written reports, and stored for future reference. This will enable the community’s interests and challenges to be shared by other communities through sources such as relevant blog sites, websites, documentaries, and radio listening programmes; therefore, encouraging the neglected outcry of the people in this community be heard.

Information Dissemination
Environmental issues, HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, abortion, and child rights are issues that affect several communities in Kenya. Due to limited access to information, communication and technology, people living in slum and rural areas hardly encourage economic growth from their already existing level. Government resources hardly reach them. Journals, internet, relevant websites, radio programmes, documentaries and videos are some of the channels through which information will be availed to this community. Radio listening sessions will be carried out, whereby educative programmes on the above mentioned issues will be delivered to the community. E-learning or distant learning will also be availed in this centre through relevant registered websites.

Working with Women and Youths
Women and youths in grass-root areas have been sidelined in communities. Women are subjected to be house wives, with no jobs to fend for themselves. Such women are encouraged to partake in activities that can help them make a living out of ordinary situations. The same applies to youths who are jobless and do not have enough funds to go to school, forcing them to be idle or get involved in crimes such as robbery. Through the CIC, women and youths in this area can learn computer services, use of internet, video and documentary making, and e-learning.

Working with CBOs, FBOs, and Schools
In order to get the conceptualized challenges that various categories of people living in Babadogo face, we work closely with the Community Based Organizations, Faith Based Organizations and schools in this area. The groups include Child Right’s groups, garbage collection groups, youth groups, women groups, small scale business groups, schools, orphanages, and Community Health Workers. For instance, small scale business groups will learn more on how to improve their businesses and effectively market their products.

Environmental Awareness
Little attention has been to the environmental surrounding in Babadogo. A large area of this community has garbage scattered all over, and it is evident that members of this community are ignorant and rarely give attention to the credibility of environmental protection, and if they do, they are simply ignorant. Populations are dependent on the environment and on the natural resource base. Degradation of these resources due to lack of alternative livelihoods is a critical problem. When the environment deteriorates and no sustainable livelihoods options are available, poverty increases tremendously in these areas. It is our main concern to empower this community on the hazards of living in such an environment, whereby many people, especially the children, are at risk of falling sick.
